Westhmus

The Life & Times of Wes Lewis

In the middle of the night

its 2am and i'm awake!  I think this is because my body is thoroughly confused with me.  Like I said in my last post, we did a cleanse this weekend, and it was difficult!  After the the days was over though , just like last time, I felt more motivated to eat healthier.  So Monday and Tuesday I had small, healthy meals, and was feeling pretty good, until this evening.  We went over to our friend's to eat tacos and have some drinks. They were delicious and we had a really great night, but i think the heat and the quantity were a bit jarring to my system... I dont feel sick or anything but I am lying here awake at 2am...

Cleanse

Today whitney and I decided to start a juice "Cleanse"

I've done one of these before, and I wasnt all that impressed with the experience.  I wasnt disappointed though either.  It was a spontaneous decision that i think ultimately was good for me, and at the very least, it helped me keep my calories down for a few days.

So when Whitney said she wanted to do a cleanse this weekend I pretty much said "aw what the heck" and went in on it with her.  I figured it would be easier for both of us to do it together, and maybe this would kickstart my motivation like it did last time, inspiring a boost of willpower that resulted in about a month with no carbs.

So we picked up our juices today and started the cleanse on the boat this morning.  the first one you drink is "the black lemonade" and its pretty tasty, if you like lemonade.  Then when we got to work we cracked into a smoothy type juice that was DELICIOUS!  this brought me up to about 10 am.  Thats the tim things started goingn downhill.  The next three juices were not quite so tasty.  you could really taste how healthy they were if you know what i mean.

around 4pm i had the "zest" juice which i thought was good, it was basically grapefruit juice.  then later in the evening i had my "dinner" juice which was a chocolate almond mylk.  VERY tasty and was able to keep me from being too hungry.

My experience today was honestly just short of agony though.  starting the diet on a friday meant having to say no to pub lunches and happy hours, which are just a couple of my favorite things!  That being said, the real reason I am doing this is as an exercise in willpower.  I dont really buy in to the "detox" thing, i just didnt see enough "results" from the last one to convince me, but at the very least, it is three days i can completely resist temptation.

I didnt LIKE passing up all the opportunities to consume delicious food and drink, but i am happy i made it.  its the end of the night now, and i've stuck with it.  tomorrow is day two, hopefully will be a bit easier with less temptation, but we'll see!

First Post

My First "Blog" post... wierd.  I think at first I'll be getting acclimated with everything and trying to get into the habit of keeping a bit of a log, so this might not be a particularly riveting post.

At any rate, I'm excited to have an outlet.  I hope to use this site to showcase some of my personal work, and to use as a place to get a lot of whats in my head...out!

I'll start by introducing myself.  My name is Wes, which is why the site is called "Westhmus"... my way of trying to be clever by tying my name into the word "isthmus" (small/narrow body of land connecting two larger bodies of land.  best example i can usually think of is the country of Panama).  This site is where I'll be able to take various aspects of my life and my self and connect them.

Anyway, back to introductions.  I'm currently 28 years old, but still consider myself very much a kid.  I love to travel, explore, create, and perform.  I love to learn, and I never consider myself "finished" learning.  I am consistently enthralled with hearing people's take on arts, culture, politics, or just about anything!  I've traveled a bit through Asia, Europe, and North America, and look forward to all the places I will visit in the future.

I enjoy ameteur photography, video editing, sketching, and musicianship.  I really just LOVE creating things, I think all the legos i got as a kid might be to blame!  I even contributed in the creation of a game on the app store.  Check out my brother's website www.rosswlewis.com for more info on that (its called search party) .  My brother and i also both love playing games so it was really awesome to finally be able to make one ( a dream since we were kids)

Its getting late here, so I'm going to sign off now, but I'm very excited about my new corner of the web!

Later!
